【Congratulations】40 Students from College of Chinese Medicine, CMU Receiving 2024 BESTEP Awards from Ministry of Education, Taiwan

College of Chinese Medicine, CMU was recognized as the "Key Cultivation College" of "The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College, BEST", or the so-called "EMI Program", by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Taiwan in academic year 112. The College actively encouraged its students to take the BEST Test of English Proficiency (BESTEP) developed and administered by the Language Training & Testing Center (LTTC) with the funding from MOE for the second semester of the academic year 112. Among them, two students achieved B2+ levels in English listening, reading, speaking, and writing, receiving the second prize of 2024 BESTEP Awards and were personally invited to attend MOE's Outstanding Awards Ceremony on September 28th, 2024 at Foreign Language Teaching & Resource Center of National Taiwan University. The other 38 students achieved B2 levels in English listening, reading, speaking, and writing, and received the third prize of 2024 BESTEP Awards, demonstrating the College's fruitful achievements in cultivating bilingual talents.

To commend the award-winning students, the Office of Bilingual Education Program at College of Chinese Medicine, CMU held the "BESTEP Awards Ceremony of College of Chinese Medicine". Dean Hung-Rong Yen, the BEST (EMI) Program Host, and Deputy Director Cheng-Hao Tu were invited to take the group photos with the award-winning students. Each awardee was presented with an exquisite gift from the College of Chinese Medicine. Additionally, each award-winning student received the "2024 Award-Winning BESTEP Essays" from LTTC. This compilation included 24 outstanding compositions from 2024, along with an analysis of their strengths and suggestions for improvement, aiming to help students further enhance their writing skills.

At the award ceremony, Dean Hung-Rong Yen addressed the award-winning students, saying, "When I was a child, I did not start learning the English alphabets until my first year of junior high school. Later, when I attended Taichung Municipal Taichung First Senior High School, I was ridiculed by my classmates for my incorrect pronunciation when I read English texts aloud in class at the beginning of the semester. Now, I am very pleased to have the opportunity to secure the funding of the BEST (EMI) Program from MOE for bilingual education. The College of Chinese Medicine is the only Key Cultivation College in Taiwan that focuses on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). I hope that students can learn English well and broaden their international perspectives on the global stage." Dean Hung-Rong Yen also expressed his gratitude to the Program Director Wen-Te Chang and Deputy Director Cheng-Hao Tu of the Office of Bilingual Education Program at College of Chinese Medicine, CMU for their dedication, as well as the efforts of the College's faculty and students in promoting bilingual education. At the same time, he thoughtfully reminded the award-winning students to seize the opportunity to apply for MOE's Overseas Internship Program, encouraging them to enhance their English proficiency while striving for overseas internships and exchanges.

College of Chinese Medicine, CMU was recognized as the "Key Cultivation College" of the EMI Program by MOE, Taiwan in academic year 112, and is dedicated to promoting bilingualism in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The College aims to establish a bilingual teaching environment for TCM and cultivate bilingual professionals in the field. It is hoped that through the continuous promotion of bilingualism, the College can enhance opportunities for its faculty and students to connect with the international community in various aspects.
